George Arnald

George Arnald (1763 - 1841) was active/lived in United Kingdom.  George Arnald is known for Figure, landscape painting.

British painter born in Farndish or Berkshire, England, he specialized in landscapes and topographical depictions to illustrate regional history. He is particularly renowned for his famous painting of the Battle of the Nile or Battle of Aboukir. 

Little is known about George Arnald's early life, but it seems that he was a pupil of the landscape painter and engraver William Pether, and first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1788.

In 1825, George Arnald worked for the Duke of Gloucester and, two years later, exhibited his most famous painting, The Destruction of the Orient during the Battle of the Nile, August 1, 1798, at the British Institution. 

In 1828, he spent some time in France, where he produced a number of paintings of the Meuse river, which he published at his own expense on his return to England. In 1939, he also published a painting manual entitled Traité pratique de la peinture à l'huile de paysage.
